When should I book my newborn photography session?

Should I book when I am pregnant?

YES!

I have had a lot of people enquire this month with babies that are older than the usual ‘under three week’ newborn age that I would normally like to have in the studio. Understandably so given the fact that we have not long come out of lockdown and there are a lot of parents hoping to capture what is left of the newborn/small baby stage. Of course, I have tried my best to fit the parents in that had not previously booked as I also wasn’t keen on taking bookings in the diary when I didn’t know whether we would be able to open or not.

However, now that we are out of lockdown, we know where we stand and it doesn’t look likely that we will be having a third lockdown I think it’s important for parents to be, to know that they ideally should be booking their newborn portrait session after their 20-week scan to ensure a date in my diary.  Diaries fill up fast!

It’s easy to think when you are still pregnant that you have plenty of time to book your newborn session especially with all of the other things that you have to arrange and sort but the months fly by so fast and before you know it baby is here! I like to photograph babies when they are ideally under two weeks of age. At this stage, they are still nice and sleepy and easy to transition into poses without waking. They also haven’t yet developed colic or rashes than older babies do. While I am still able to do older babies in newborn style we are not able to do as many setups and poses. The age of a baby does dictate how smoothly the session will run and what we will achieve. The younger the baby the better chance we have to capture beautiful, unique images for you to treasure forever.

The other important thing to remember is I only undertake a certain amount of newborns per month. This is because I have to allow for editing time and other sessions. This means if you have not previously booked your baby into the diary for a time their due date ( I always reserve dates for around your due date once you have secured your booking) then I can’t always offer you a date as I won’t have availability. So basically, please book your session whilst pregnant so that I don’t have to turn you away once you have had baby!  Also once you have booked in that is one less thing you have to worry about. You can sit back and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.
